The sample first chapter is linked from the product page there.  I read over that and some initial thoughts made their way into irc:<\/p>\n<pre>\r\n 3:08 PM &lt; volkadav&gt; haha so there's some new oreilly \r\nbook called Codermetrics\r\n 3:08 PM &lt; volkadav&gt; which appears to be some sort of \r\n\"we can track and quantify people and yay!!!\" for the \r\nmanager set\r\n 3:08 PM &lt; volkadav&gt; i read the first chapter online \r\n(sample via ora's website)\r\n 3:09 PM &lt; volkadav&gt; it's depressing how well it fits \r\ninto the stereotypes i have of idiot frat boy managers\r\n 3:09 PM &lt; volkadav&gt; a) lots of sports analogies\r\n 3:09 PM &lt;@BSDCat&gt; stop.\r\n 3:09 PM &lt; volkadav&gt; b) desperate attempts to \r\nquantify the unquantifiable\r\n 3:09 PM &lt;@BSDCat&gt; oh please let there not be more \r\nthan a+b\r\n 3:10 PM &lt; volkadav&gt; c) main example [given in the \r\nfirst chapter] is of a team that had a series of serious \r\nsetbacks so OF COURSE it's the fault of the two junior \r\nmembers who quit after the first year\r\n 3:10 PM &lt; volkadav&gt; with METRICS and NUMBERS to prove\r\nit couldn't POSSIBLY be management's fault\r\n 3:10 PM &lt; volkadav&gt; HURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR\r\nRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR\r\n 3:11 PM &lt; volkadav&gt; sigh.\r\n 3:11 PM &lt; volkadav&gt; i mean, yes, sure it's great that\r\nyou hired people better able to answer their own questions\r\n 3:12 PM &lt; volkadav&gt; buuuuut i doubt two junior people\r\non a team of six+ could have run the whole thing off the \r\nrails by themselves, brah!\r\n 3:12 PM &lt; volkadav&gt; it's like every generation has to \r\ndiscover for themselves that \"Scientific Management\" is and\r\nALWAYS HAS BEEN complete and total BULLSHIT \r\n<\/pre>\n<p><i>[Seriously, Taylor&#8217;s methods were deeply flawed to the point of it being fraudulent to even call them science.  Go <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/#sclient=psy&amp;hl=en&amp;source=hp&amp;q=taylor+scientific+management+criticism&amp;pbx=1&amp;oq=taylor+scientific+management+criticism&amp;aq=f&amp;aqi=g-j1&amp;aql=&amp;gs_sm=e&amp;gs_upl=1022l3653l0l3846l14l11l2l6l6l1l190l527l3.2l5l0&amp;bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&amp;fp=1a2cc6000ca7d280&amp;biw=1299&amp;bih=1060\">read up<\/a> on this stuff because it expands beyond my desire to replicate here. Then cry yourself to sleep because that egregious codswallop has been cited thousands of times in scholarly works and is the basis for a lot of so-called modern management.]<\/i>\n<\/p>\n<p>Then I got off on another rant about the differences between leadership and management that probably deserves a longer blog post at a later date.
